Arrhythmia Center |
An arrhythmia is abnormal heart rate or rhythm. Arrhythmias are caused by a disruption of the normal electrical conduction system of the heart. The signal for the heart to contract in a synchronized manner is an electrical impulse that begins in the sinoatrial node, which is the body’s natural pacemaker. Problems can occur anywhere along the conduction system, causing the heartbeat too fast, too slow or in a disturbed rhythm. People who have a history of cardiac conditions such as coronary artery disease or heart valve disorders, and with imbalances of blood chemistires are of higher risk groups to have arrhythmias.
